London restaurants and bars are known for their glamour and there are many high end and Michelin star restaurants here. What is the dress code though? Can you be overdressed or under dressed? It all depends on the location and the calibre of the restaurant.
Believe it or not but London is actually a very causal place , especially in the local areas and not so glamorous neighbourhoods. Only certain places attract the glamoutous crowd and that would be mainly Chelsea and Mayfair. Some restaurants that are very famous are attracting the super glam clientele while others don't. The general rule of thumb is to dress smart casual, that way you will be dressed for any occasion and any place.
How to recognise someone who has never been to the opera before?- they are wearing a tuxedo! Even the Royal Opera House is casual. Save your tuxedo for a ball or some other dressed up occasion. For women it's a bit different, we are generally more glamorous by nature so we can wear a dress that might not be a ball gown but is still over the top but in London it is best to dress a little bit down. Only the top end restaurants in Mayfair will be filled with super dressed up ladies.
