London theatre- Lyonesse -honest review

New play in Harold Pinter theatre Lyonesse starring Kristin Scott Thomas and Lilly James. I have some thoughts about this play that I will share in this review with some spoilers.

Both actresses are absolutely splendid is the play, their performance is very entertaining , funny and thought provoking. There is a lot of symbolism in the play that one might not pick up on if they are not aware of it.

The play tells a story of an actress who left the scene after some traumatic experiences and now is ready to come back to tell the tale. A young producer is visiting her to plan the movie based on her life. While the story unravels and the young producer is transfixed but the life and current lifestyle of the actress. Then after a series of event she is contemplating moving into Lyonesse (the name do the house they live in). The symbolism of Lilith is also present in the play (used as the name of the film production company) which pretty much sets the tone of the play if you know the story of Lilith. There is also a very strong subliminal message to convert women away from men and into other women which I thought was a bit much although very funny and of course well acted. The bottom line is the play encourages man hating and women breaking away from them. Again a very hard push which was a bit unbearable at times. The play aludes to #metoo movement which ends up being extremely messy at the end which does not help at all.

If you wan to see it for the famous actresses it is a good idea but if you are not a man hater you might find it a bit too much to handle. An enjoyable experience but on the way home left me a bit discombobulated and wanting to give men a big hug metaphorically speaking. Hang in there , we are not going to push you off the cliff as the play suggests!
